Ingredients

  • Bread: 8 slices
  • Ghee: 1 cup
  • Milk: 2 cups
  • Sugar: 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Mixed nuts (almonds, cashews, and pistachios): 1/2 cup (chopped)
  • Saffron strands: A few strands (soaked in 2 tablespoons of warm milk)
  • Water: 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Bread:
    • Remove the crusts from the bread slices and cut them into small pieces or crumble them.
    • Heat a pan and add 2 tablespoons of ghee. Fry the bread pieces until they turn golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  2. Making the Sugar Syrup:
    • In the same pan, add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely and the syrup comes to a boil.
    • Add the cardamom powder and the soaked saffron milk. Mix well.
  3. Combining Ingredients:
    • Add the fried bread pieces to the sugar syrup. Mix well and cook on a medium flame.
    • Gradually add the milk while stirring continuously. Ensure there are no lumps.
  4. Adding Ghee and Nuts:
    • Continue cooking until the bread absorbs the milk and the mixture thickens.
    • Add the remaining ghee in small quantities, stirring continuously to avoid sticking.
    • Once the halwa starts to leave the sides of the pan, add the chopped nuts and mix well.
  5. Final Touch:
    • Cook for a few more minutes until the halwa reaches the desired consistency.
    • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.

Serving

  • Garnish with a few more chopped nuts on top.
  • Serve warm as a dessert.

Tips

  • Ensure to fry the bread pieces well to avoid a soggy texture.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preference.
