Position Summary
ISH is seeking a dedicated and responsible Women Bus Monitor to join their team. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of students during their transportation to and from school. The Women Bus Monitor will work under the supervision of the Transportation Officer or designated school authority, playing a key role in maintaining order, enforcing safety regulations, and providing assistance to students as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Student Supervision:
- Supervise students boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring orderly conduct and adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintain discipline and a respectful environment, addressing disruptive behavior promptly.
- Assist younger children or students with special needs in finding their seats and navigating the bus.
- Safety & Security:
- Ensure students are safely seated with seat belts fastened during transit.
- Monitor traffic conditions and report any hazards to the bus driver.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the bus.
- Emergency Response:
- Be familiar with emergency procedures for accidents, medical emergencies, or breakdowns.
- Stay calm and composed in emergencies, offering reassurance and following established protocols.
- Student Support:
- Provide assistance to students with special needs, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Act as a trusted adult presence, offering guidance, encouragement, and support to students.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Communicate effectively with the bus driver, transportation staff, and school administration regarding any concerns.
- Provide feedback on student behavior, bus conditions, and route issues to appropriate authorities.
- Professionalism & Conduct:
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor, serving as a positive role model for students.
- Adhere to school policies, promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and safety.
- General Assistant:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the reporting supervisor at school.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in childcare or related fields is a plus.
- Previous experience working with children, ideally in a school or childcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine concern for children’s well-being.
- Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Knowledge of student transportation safety regulations preferred.
- Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus).
- Willingness to undergo background checks, including criminal record and child protection clearances, as required by the school.
